I am a native Memphian. I received my Bachelors from Rhodes College in English with a focus in poetry in 2002. I received her Masters in Teaching from the University of Memphis, where she has also acquired a number of graduate hours in African American Literature and Compositions Studies. The 2020-21 school year marks by 18th year as a high school English teacher. I also teach ENGL 1010 and ENGL 1020 at Southwest Community College.
I love to teach. I feel that teaching is one of my gifts. I believe in pushing my students to not just do their best but to be their best. For me, being and educator is not just about a classroom's curriculum. I see teaching as an opportunity to influence the next generation of leaders. My hope is that when students leave my classroom they feel better prepared to face the world. My desire is for each young person to understand perseverance, dedication, integrity, tenacity, and how to be a critical evaluator and consumer of the world we live in. I truly believe that their is great potential in each child. I desire to equip my students with as many tools as I can, so that they can better navigate their current and future realities. |

I am a business owner and career educator. I was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan. My parents were high school sweethearts from West Helen, Arkansas. Along with thousands of others, my parents migrated north to improve their quality of life. I attended Detroit Public Schools and graduated from Redford High School. Shortly after graduation I attended Wayne State University where I obtained a Bachelors of Science (BS) in English Education with a minor in Dance and a Masters of Education(M.Ed) in Secondary Education. I never adjusted to the extreme cold of the north, so when the opportunity to move south presented itself, I moved without hesitation. I currently resides in Memphis with my supportive husband and two gifted children, one who is a graduate of Cordova High School. I have been working in education for over 20 years. I am the author of God's Favorite Color is Blue, a memoir about my life and I have helped many others publish their own stories. I truly believe, and often state, "I was born for this!"

Mrs. Woods
This is my 18th year of teaching; however, this school year marks an extremely happy occasion for me. I am finally transitioning from middle school to high school. My mother is a retired teacher, and I was heavily influenced by her and almost all my high school teachers to become an educator. I envisioned myself as a high school teacher, and this year I finally get that opportunity. Quite naturally, I stayed in Memphis to attend undergrad. I attended Christian Brothers University on a full scholarship, and I earned my B.A. in English with a minor in Education. I also have a Master's of Art in Teaching from Cumberland University and an MBA from Walden University. I am married to a wonderful Memphis Fire Fighter/Paramedic, and we have two adorable boys. The oldest is excited to start his first year of middle school. In addition to teaching, I enjoy running a small custom cake business and an on-line Esty shop. I am an avid believer that all students are scholars in their own right. Students who are willing to put in the work towards a goal will reap the rewards. My personal goal every year is to inspire and to instill a love of knowledge in my students. I am also a firm believer that prayer, hard work, and a positive attitude can take you anywhere.
